Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders. It may also include behavioral, cognitive and feeding disorders. Some children may simply require extra stimulation to aid speech and language development. Treatment may focus on: Articulation, Oral Motor Skills, Receptive and Expressive Language, Fluency, Aural Rehabilitation, Voice and Augmentative Communication. TTS speech-language pathologist (SLP) practices a context, child-centered approach to therapy. Using play, peer interaction and creativity, the SLP facilitates a more natural learning environment to foster communicative success and carry-over into their daily activities. Training:

PROMPT: Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets: A Dynamic, sensory-motor, tactile-kinesthetic system designed to help organize, plan and execute elements of speech production.

VERBAL BEHAVIOR: Based on analysis of B.F. Skinner, a program, successfully used with the Autistic population, designed to capture a child’s motivation to develop a connection between the value of a word and the word itself; thus promoting “function” (Verbal Behavior) of language.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy fosters an environment that encourages achievement of necessary skills to reach age-appropriate independence. Occupation therapists specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and management of infants, children and adolescents with a variety of limiting factors affecting independence. Some examples include children with neuro-muscular, developmental, skeletal or other acquired diseases/disorders. Treatment may focus on: activities of daily living (dressing, toileting, etc.), sensory progressing/integration, eating and feeding, developmental stimulation, appropriate social interaction/behavior, visual motor/perceptual skills and handwriting.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy seeks to promote wellness, prevent injury, aid neuro-developmental growth and increase independence with mobility including gait, gross motor skills and transfers. In addition, therapy aims to rehabilitate children to their prior level of function after injury whether it be traumatic or sports related. Pediatric sports medicine and orthopedics is a specialize field. Treatment may focus on: gait analysis, transfer skills, balance, gross and fine motor skills, developmental stimulation, range of motion, strength, muscle tone, special orthopedic testing, joint mobility, lower extremities orthotics and seating and mobility.
